Two ways to end up with "travel software"
One path: start with a general business platform and add travel-specific fields and screens on top. Another: start from the actual shape of travel agency operations — bookings, supplier costs, commission, visas — and build the platform around that. Both can end up marketed as "travel software," but they behave very differently in practice.
Where the difference shows
Adapted software tends to show its seams in specific, recognisable ways: a "booking" that's really just a renamed generic sales order, VAT logic that needs manual workarounds for travel's mixed treatment, no real concept of commission separate from other income.
What purpose-built looks like instead
Purpose-built software treats those travel-specific concepts as first-class citizens from the schema up — a booking genuinely understands its supplier cost, commission is its own tracked category, VAT treatment reflects travel's actual complexity by default.
How Muhasib approached this
Muhasib's Travel Bookings module was designed around the real workflow of travel agencies — bookings, suppliers, commission, visas, itineraries — as core concepts, with Accounts and CRM built to understand and connect to them natively.
