Retail & General Trading

ERP software built for supermarket.

A larger, departmentalized self-service retail store — groceries plus fresh meat/seafood counters, bakery, general merchandise, household goods, and toiletries — typically single large-format branch or a small regional chain.

How it works

The business model

Supermarkets buy from a broader supplier base than a grocery — national FMCG distributors, direct-from-producer fresh meat/produce contracts, and imported general-merchandise wholesalers — often with rebates, listing fees, and promotional co-funding agreements. They sell to walk-in consumers across multiple checkout lanes at fixed shelf pricing with frequent promotional cycles (weekly flyers, seasonal campaigns).

Built for reality

What Muhasib handles

The situations that break generic software are designed in from day one.

Cross-department promotion ("spend $50 across the store, get $5 off") — discount engine must evaluate the whole basket, not a single department.

Counter-prepared item (e.g. custom-cut meat) priced by weight determined only at time of sale — cannot be pre-barcoded.

Rebate/listing-fee income from a supplier — must be recognized separately from normal purchase cost, not netted silently against COGS.

Branch-to-branch transfer in transit when a stock count occurs at either branch — count must exclude in-transit quantities from both sides' on-hand.

End-of-day markdown on unsold fresh/bakery stock — needs a distinct "markdown sale" price override that is logged and reported separately from discretionary discounts.

Loyalty card scanned after payment already started — must still be attachable to the transaction before it is finalized.
